Giles Cup - Group Stage - 07/02/12
Venue - Portlaoise

St Marys Belfast 1-03    IT Tralee 8-13

IT Tralee Ladies Footballers got their Giles Cup campaign off to a flying start in Portlaoise with a resounding victory over St. Marys Belfast.

Tralee started poorly and found themselves down a goal within a minute of the throw in. This was the wakeup call the girls need and replied with two goals in quick succession from Mirium O Keffee and Sarah Cunningham. From there Tralee never looked back and once they got on top they piled on score after score. Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half Tralee racked up 4-6 this mainly coming from the boot of our inside forward line while Kathleen Martin and Ailish Considine chipping in with scores to leave Tralee ahead by 13 points at the break.

Tralee started the second half the way they finished the first, when Amy Foley and Aoife Newell found the target half way the second half it meant all Tralee’s starting forwards got themselves on the score board. The final score was IT Tralee 8-13 St Marys Belfast 1-3.

The Tralee team was –
Leoine Higgins, Megan Galvin, Siobhan Mc Donald, Martina O Brien, Shauna HIlley, Sarah Miley, Kate Feeney, Ailish Considine (2-3), Sinead Kelly, Amy Foley (1-1), Kathleen Martin (0-2), Aoife Newell(0-1), Sarah Cunningham (1-4), Aoife O Driscoll (2-0) and Mirium O Keeffe (1-2).

Rosie Young for Martin, Rosin Brown (1-0) for Feeney.
